Troy Men’s Golf Slips to Sixth; Poppell Moves Up to Eighth

GADSDEN, Ala. – Despite shooting 3-under as a team on Monday, the Troy men's golf team slipped four spots into sixth place following the second round of the Graeme McDowell Invitational at the Limestone Springs Golf Club. Lee Poppell fired his second straight round in the 60s with a 4-under 68 to climb into a tie for eighth place individually.

Poppell is 7-under through 36 holes after carding five birdies in Monday's second round, with four coming on a 3-under back nine. He opened the front with eight pars and a birdie on the par-3 seventh before an eventful back nine where five of the nine holes were something other than par.

Jason Quinlan joined Poppell in the red with a 2-under 70, a 7-shot improvement from Sunday, to climb 17 spots into a tie for 49^th place. He made the turn even, and his card reached 1-over after a bogey on the 10^th, but he responded with birdies on three of his final five holes to move to 2-under.

North Alabama enters Tuesday's final round with a one-shot lead over Lipscomb and ULM, while Memphis is three shots back in fourth, Louisiana Tech is seven shots back in fifth and Troy sits nine shots back in sixth.

Jake Springer is tied for 27^th place at 2-under for the week after shooting 73 on Monday, with five birdies, while Pablo Gracia, Nick Fowlkes and Grant Yerger are all tied for 35^th place at 1-over.

Teams wrap up play Tuesday morning with 18 holes.
