NEW ORLEANS – Laura Fangmeyer fired the fifth-lowest round in Troy's program history with a 5-under 67 in Tuesday's final round of the Green Wave Invitational. Fangmeyer climbed into second place individually, while Troy moved into third place as a team.
Fangmeyer carded five birdies and no bogeys in her final round, including four birdies on the back nine, where she shot 4-under. The Trojan junior played the final nine holes to a 7-under mark for the week as she finished 2-under for the tournament.
LSU's Jordan Fischer, who was playing as an individual, claimed individual medalist honors at 5-under, while Fangmeyer's 214 ranks as the 13th-best 54-hole score in program history.
Troy shot even-par as a team on Tuesday at TPC Louisiana to climb a spot into third place, ahead of host Tulane and Memphis out of the American Athletic Conference. South Alabama won the team title by two shots over Dallas Baptist, while Troy was seven shots back of the Jags.
Playing for the first time in a Troy uniform, transfer Victoria Stutts tied for eighth place at 4-over par after shooting 1-over on Tuesday, thanks to a relatively clean round with 16 pars and one birdie. Making her 2024 debut, Alyssa Mercado turned in a 10th place finish at 4-over after carding three birdies (all on par 4 holes) on the day en route to a 5-over for the week.
Manya Saini turned in a 4-over 76 for Troy in the final round with a pair of birdies on her card, while Katelynn Altese carded a trio of birdies in a round of 75, her best of the week, which moved her into a tie for 36th place.
Troy will take a couple of weeks off before heading to Greenville, N.C., and the Ironwood Golf and Country Club for the Pirate Collegiate Classic hosted by East Carolina.
