CHOUDRANT, La. – Troy men's golf didn't waste any time getting into the win column this season as the Trojans shot 7-under to win the Argent Financial Classic held at Squire Creek Country Club as play wrapped up Tuesday. It was Troy's first team win since the spring of 2023.
"Unbelievable week from the Men of Troy," head coach Clay Bounds said. "Wow. All the guys stepped up in a huge way. I'm so proud of the way the guys played with the lead. Nobody backed down, and everyone stayed steady all day. The scores were high overall this week, and we played great."
Troy entered Tuesday's final round tied with Houston for the team lead, but the Trojans shot even-par over the final 18 holes compared to the Cougars' 3-over to claim the title. Troy's 857 would have ranked as its third-best total last season.
Nick Fowlkes turned in his best performance in a Troy uniform, carding an 8-under 208 following rounds of 71 that bookended a 6-under 66 in Monday's second round. Fowlkes finished second, just two shots back of the leader, Rice's Lukas Boandl, after carding four birdies on Tuesday.
Playing for the first time since the spring of 2023, Jason Quinlan turned in a top 10 finish after shooting a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to climb two spots into 10th. He got off to a hot start, with an eagle on the par-5 second before eventually making the turn even. Quinlan added birdies on the 11th and 13th to move 1-under, where he stood until a bogey on the 18th.
Lee Poppell and Pablo Gracia followed in a tie for 20th place after shooting 4-over and 2-over, respectively, on Tuesday. Poppell picked up three birdies over a four-hole stretch around the turn, while Gracia had two birdies on the day.
Jake Springer came up clutch for the Trojans in the final round after struggling earlier in the week after battling illness heading into the tournament. Troy's leader last year, Springer, shot even on Tuesday with five birdies to climb 22 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 47th place.
Troy is off for two weeks before heading to the Graeme McDowell Invitational at the Greystone Country Club in Birmingham.
