Troy Position Preview - Wide Receivers

TROY, Ala. – The Trojans' wide receiver room looks almost completely different this season after losing Jabre Barber, Deshon Stoudemire and Marcus Rogers. Troy will also miss Chris Lewis this season as he is still recovering from osteosarcoma. Lewis was named to the All-Sun Belt Third Team last season after hauling in 735 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Key Returning Pieces
Devonte Ross is returning to Troy for his junior year. The Cartersville, Georgia, native finished fourth on the team with 428 receiving yards last season. Ross has 809 all-purpose yards through his first two seasons in Cardinal and has found the end zone thrice.
Peyton Higgins is also returning to Troy for his junior season. The 5-foot-10 receiver from Florence, Alabama, has 259 receiving yards, 17 receptions and one touchdown so far in his collegiate career. Higgins has been a key contributor to Troy's special teams units and led the Trojans with 226 special teams snaps last season.
Landon Parker, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, is entering his second season for the Trojans and seventh in collegiate football. Parker came to Troy before the 2023 campaign after beginning his career at Wofford, where he hauled in 60 catches for 1,183 yards and six touchdowns. Parker finished the 2023 season with 128 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Caleb Chappelle and DJ Epps are two other returning pieces to Troy's receiver room. Chappelle, a junior transfer from Rice, mainly appeared on special teams for the Trojans last season. Epps, a redshirt sophomore from Seale, Alabama, only has seen six snaps so far in his collegiate career.
Robert Bruce and Jackson Thomas round out last season's position group returners. Bruce, a senior from Park Crossing, Alabama, has not appeared in a game for the Trojans. Thomas, a redshirt freshman, has not played a snap for Troy. Thomas was formerly ranked as a top 50 player in Alabama, coming out of high school by On3 and 247 Sports Composite.
Incoming Transfer Additions
Zeriah Beason, a 6-foot-tall junior from Dallas, Texas, is transferring from Hutchinson Community College, where he led the team with 524 receiving yards and hauled in five touchdown receptions. Before becoming a Blue Dragon, Beason spent his first two seasons with Oregon State. As a Beaver, Beason had 384 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Mojo Dortch, a redshirt sophomore, has not seen much action in his first two seasons. The former four-star recruit was ranked as the No. 4 player in Mississippi by 247 Sports in high school. The 6-foot-even speedster started his collegiate career in the SEC at Mississippi State before transferring to Cal after only appearing in one game. Dortch did not see any game action last season for the Golden Bears.
Roman Mothershed, a redshirt freshman, is coming in from Independence Community College via Pike Road High School. Mothershed stands at a towering 6-foot-4 and has had a strong fall camp.
Fresh Faces on Campus
Jywon Boyd is crossing the street from Charles Henderson High School to play college football for his hometown team. The Troy native was a two-time all-state selection in high school and finished his senior season with 2,044 all-purpose yards, 62 receptions, 14 receiving touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns, two kick return touchdowns and two punt return touchdowns. 247 Sports ranked Boyd as the No. 44 player in Alabama and On3 Industry Ranking named Boyd the No. 67 athlete in the nation.
Ky McNulty is a 6-foot-4 freshman from Bay Minette, Alabama. McNulty was a consensus three-star recruit from Baldwin County High School and 247 Sports ranked him as the No. 62 player in Alabama.
Ian Senn rounds out the incoming freshman class. Senn, a 6-foot-2 freshman from Ariton, Alabama, was a star for Ariton High School. Senn finished his career as a Purple Cat with 5,939 all-purpose yards, 46 passing touchdowns and 25 receiving/rushing touchdowns.
