TROY, Ala. – Troy's new record holder for RBIs in a single season, Brooks Bryan, was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy; the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Thursday afternoon.
The catcher for Troy had his 2024 season immortalized in the Troy record books last Saturday when he battled eight pitches to earn a full-count walk. That walk marked his 82nd RBI of 2024, moving him above Joey Denison's previous single-season record of 81 set during the 2018 season, which featured a run in the NCAA Regional.
No. 17 leads the Sun Belt Conference in RBIs (82) and ranks in the top 10 for total bases (123), sac flies (5), homers (17) – ranked 65th nationally – and slugging percentage (.631). In 50 games, Bryan has 57 hits, with 29 going for extra bases, leading the team with the most multi-RBI games at 21 – includes eight with four or more and one with seven. The sophomore also had 15 multi-hit games with three of four-plus as he reached a career and team-long 17 straight games from April 6 – May 4.
This is the 37th year of the Dick Howser Trophy. Finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 8. The 2024 award will be presented at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, the home of the College World Series, for the 12th year. The winner will also be unveiled on MLB Network on Thursday, June 13, in the 9 a.m. (CDT) highlight show hour. A Friday, June 14, news conference with the winner will be held at 10 a.m., the opening day just prior to the first game of the 77th NCAA College World Series, in the Schwab Stadium Media Room.
Bryan and the Trojans open senior weekend at Riddle-Pace Field against James Madison, with opening pitch at 6 p.m.
