Forty Troy Student-Athletes Earned Degrees Friday

TROY, Ala. – One of the largest Troy student-athlete graduating class in recent history earned their degrees on Friday, as 40 Trojan student-athletes had their degrees conferred during Troy's two spring commencement ceremonies in Trojan Arena.

Included in that group are members of Troy's baseball, softball and track & field programs, who will have special commencement ceremonies this upcoming week due to being on the road for competition on Friday.

Eleven of Troy's programs were represented at commencement, led by 11 members of the baseball program and five from the men's track & field program. Additionally, four student-athletes represented women's basketball, softball, football, and soccer.

State Sen. Arthur Orr (R-3rd) delivered the keynote addresses at both ceremonies. Sen. Orr, who represents Morgan, Madison, and Limestone counties in the Alabama Senate, was first elected in 2006. Since then, Sen. Orr has sponsored and passed legislation to address the high school student drop-out rate, put the state's checkbook online, improve campaign finance reporting, remove racist language from the state constitution, and support volunteer firefighters and free medical clinics. He serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance and Taxation Education.

He was instrumental in the formation and development of the Robotics Technology Park, The Alabama Center for the Arts, and the Alabama School for Cyber Technology and Engineering.
