TROY, Ala. – Brooks Bryan hit his second grand slam of the month, and Troy belted five extra-base hits as the Trojans defeated Georgia State, 10-7, Sunday in the rubber game of the three-game Sun Belt series at Riddle-Pace Field.
Troy (28-14, 11-7 Sun Belt) scored four runs in the fifth and seventh innings after Georgia State (20-19, 10-8) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth; the Panthers scored their first four runs of the game on four solo homers, two off the bat of JoJo Jackson.
The victory keeps Troy in second place in the Sun Belt, tied with Coastal Carolina and Southern Miss; the Trojans travel to Conway this upcoming weekend for a three-game set at Coastal.
After the Panthers struck in the top of the second, Kyle Mock gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame with his seventh home run of the season following a four-pitch walk by Tremayne Cobb Jr. to lead off the frame.
Mock finished a triple shy of the cycle as he led the Trojans, going 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and a walk. Myers finished with three hits, two doubles, and a pair of RBIs, while Cobb, Ben Arnett and Peyton Watts all had two hits.
Jackson tied the game in the fourth with his first homer of the day and Michael Maginnis homered in the fifth.
Troy did all its damage in the fifth with two outs, sparked by a double to right-center from Mock. Aidan Gilroy was hit by a pitch before Arnett and Watts delivered back-to-back RBI singles. The Panthers went to the bullpen and Myers welcomed Aidan McEvoy with a 2-run double off the wall in left-center.
Leading 6-4 in the seventh, Myers walked ahead of back-to-back walks by Ethan Kavanagh and Will Bitcher. Bryan wasted no time taking a 1-0 fastball from Ross Norman 434 feet off the batter's eye in center field for his 14th home run of the season and pushing his RBI total to 68.
Jay Dill (1-1) picked up his first win in a Troy uniform with 2.2 innings in relief of starter Grayson Stewart; he allowed a pair of runs on three hits after Stewart struck out six in 3.1 innings. Connor Burt recorded the final four outs, three via the strikeout, for his first save.
McEvoy (2-1), who earned the win on Friday, was tagged with the loss on Sunday, allowing four runs on three hits without recording an out.
