Women’s Golf Wraps Day One of SBC Championship

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Troy women's golf is in 11^th place following Monday's opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Lakewood Golf Course. Bruna Roqueta shot a 3-over 75 to lead the Trojans, while Alyssa Mercado shot a 5-over 77.

Mercado paced the Trojans with four birdies on the opening day of the 54-hole event, while Laura Fangmeyer and Katelynn Altese added three each. Starting from No. 10, Roqueta made the turn at 2-over with three bogeys and a birdie on the 480-yard 16^th before shooting 1-over on her back nine, with a birdie on the par 425-yard No.1.

Roqueta is tied for 28^th place individually, while Mercado is two shots back in a tie for 40^th place. Mercado was trending in the right direction, reaching 1-under on three different occasions as she birdied three of her first seven holes and four of her first 10. However, a rough patch pushed her back nine total to 41 and her overall card to 5-over.

Three ULM golfers shot under-par, and the Warhawks have a 3-shot lead over Texas State following Monday's opening round, while Georgia Southern and Old Dominion round out the top four. The Sun Belt switched to a match play format this season, meaning the top four teams following 54 holes advance to a head-to-head match play showdown for the title.

Southern Miss is just one shot back of ODU for fifth, followed by Coastal Carolina and James Madison, while Troy is 19 shots back of fourth.

Playing in her first Sun Belt Championship, Manya Saini shot a 38 on her front nine en route to a 6-over 78 and a tie for 44^th place, while Altese is tied for 47^th place at 7-over. Fangmeyer sat 2-over following birdies on her first two holes after making the turn but shot 8-over on her final six holes to finish the day with an 82.

Troy will play Tuesday's second round with App State and South Alabama, with the first group teeing off from No. 10 at 8:45 a.m.
