SAN ANTONIO, Fla. – Alyssa Mercado and Laura Fangmeyer each shot rounds of 1-under 70 to lead Troy on the opening day of the Spring Break Shootout, hosted by Western Kentucky at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.

Troy sits in 10^th place as a team but is just seven shots off a top-five finish in a tough field. Western Kentucky shot 16-under as a team and holds an 8-shot lead over North Florida, while Chattanooga and James Madison are also under-par to round out the top four.

Mercado carded eight birdies on the day, seventh best in the field, and is tied for 14^th place at 1-over par after the opening 36 holes of the event. Her card reached 3-under after birdies on 17 and 18 before she settled at 1-under; Mercado started her round on the fifth hole.

Fangmeyer's 70 also came in the first round, where she carded four birdies, including two over her final three holes to pull a 1-over into the red for her second round under-par this season; she is tied for 19^th place.

Bruna Roqueta carded five birdies over her two rounds and is tied for 36^th place at 4-over with Katelynn Altese, who added a pair of birdies in her second round. Manya Saini is tied for 68^th place after shooting 11-over on the day.

Troy will play Tuesday's final round along with Memphis and Butler, beginning at 7:45 a.m. (CT) from holes 10 thru 12 in the shotgun start.
