Midweek Non-Con
Tuesday's matchup concludes the Trojans' (14-7, 2-1 SBC) longest road trip (12) since 1997, where they ended the season with 12 on the road, including the NCAA Tournament. After a 2-1 series win over ULM, Troy sits at 5-6 on the road trip with a chance to go .500.
Lou St. Amant Field saw Brooks Bryan lead the Trojans with a stellar game one where he went 4-of-5 for four RBIs – marked his first 4-plus hit game at Troy. He followed it in game two when he blasted a 3-run, 364-foot homer over the right field wall to finish with seven RBIs on the weekend.
With a lackluster game two, 8-4, Kyle Mock came to recover the series in the third game with season-highs of three in RBIs and hits. The tandem of him and a pair of doubles from Tremayne Cobb Jr. allowed Troy to cruise to a 6-4 victory in game three.
Troy's bullpen highlighted Luke Lyon in game one when he pitched seven innings and gave up one run through 86 pitches for a 0.62 ERA. Then, Michael Osmond entered to button it up and keep the Warhawks hitless in the final two innings for a 7-1 win. Game three saw the trio of Grayson Stewart, Ryan Pettys and Noah Manning allow five hits matched with five strikeouts and keep ULM silent in the final five innings to secure a series win, 6-4.
After 21 games, the Trojans enter the in-state midweek ranked in the top 10 nationally in sacrifice flies (10th – 15) and base-on-balls (10th – 136), while Will Butcher ranks eighth in doubles (10) and second in RBIs (35).
Neither side has found control over the last 10 Troy-UAB meetings with a 5-5 split. The Trojans are winners in three of the previous four with a plus-3.5 average margin of victory. The meeting also marks the first in Birmingham since 2021, where Troy won 12-4 on 13 hits. Pettys is the only Trojan on the 2024 roster who appeared in that game, pitching two innings for two strikeouts.
The Blazers enter Tuesday winners of three straight with a sweep over Lindenwood. The three-game series saw UAB outscore the opposition 20-8. 2024's seen the Blazers go 1-3 in their midweek games, with the only win coming against UT Martin, 12-11, in 10 innings.
Despite barely hanging above .500 through nonconference play, UAB stands 7-4 at Young Memorial Field and ranks highest in shutouts, totaling two against Kennesaw State and Lindenwood to rank 18th in the nation.
