TROY, Ala. – Few individuals transcend themselves into greatness, and even fewer find themselves amongst the legends. Head coach Chanda Rigby finds herself joining the legends as she becomes inducted into the Florida College System Activities Association Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024, the FCSAA announced Saturday evening.
"I was shocked to get the phone call that I was being inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame," Rigby said. "I know and highly regard some of the previous inductees, and it is an honor to be recognized in this elite group."
Members of the Hall of Fame have made outstanding contributions as a coach, player, official, administrator or contributor. Coaches must have been actively involved in coaching at an FCSAA-member college for a minimum of five years or won an NJCAA Championship. Rigby is the lone coach, joining Ramona Edwards and Carla Williams as members of the Class of 2024.
Rigby coached at Pensacola State College from 2005-12, where she accumulated a 153-64 record over seven seasons. Her first season saw just nine wins, but she continued to improve until she reached her first 20-win season in 2009. The following season (2010), Rigby led Pensacola State to 24 wins, a postseason birth and a qualification to the FCSAA Tournament.
2011 and 2012 saw Rigby's best seasons as she led the Pirates to their first FCSAA Championship in 26 years (2011) before repeating the following year. She seized two Pandhandle and FCSAA Coach of the Year Awards, 64 wins and consecutive third place finishes in the NJCAA Tournament. In 2011 alone, she won 34 straight games before falling in the FCSAA semifinals to finish 35-1.
"I have so much gratitude for the opportunity I was given to coach at Pensacola State College," Rigby said. "It allowed me to coach some of the best athletes in junior college women's basketball, and it ultimately led to the opportunity that I have been given to coach at Troy."
While at Pensacola State, Rigby produced four All-FCSAA performers, four NJCAA All-Americans and three WBCA All-Americans.
Her 153 wins at Pensacola State helped Rigby earn her 450th career win as a coach in 2023-24 against Bowling Green. Since coming to Troy, she's amassed a 227-142 record with seven 20-plus win seasons, three Sun Belt Tournament Championships, two Sun Belt Regular Season Titles, three trips to the NCAA Tournament, seven postseason appearances, 26 all-conference selections, five Sun Belt Post Season Award winners, a Sun Belt Player of the Year honoree and a Sun Belt Coach of the Year award.
"This honor will forever be special to me as it will serve to remind me of the relationships I built, the amazing athletes I was blessed to coach, and the wonderful memories I made while working in the Florida College System Activities Association," Rigby said.
