Luke Lyon Named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy junior right-hander Luke Lyon has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week following his dominant outing on the mound in the Trojans' victory at Indiana this past Saturday.
Lyon, a Hattiesburg, Miss., native, tossed 7.1 innings of four-hit, one-run ball for the Trojans in their series-opening victory over the Hoosiers in Bloomington. After surrendering a home run to the leadoff hitter, Lyon allowed just three hits, struck out seven and walked two over the remainder of his outing.
Even more impressive about Lyon's performance were the conditions in which he pitched in, as temperatures hovered in the mid-30s with a 20-MPH wind blowing out to right field. Indiana scored 21 runs in the final two games of the series, and both teams scored a combined 52 runs in the series; Lyon allowed just one.
Lyon enters the week ranked third in the country, allowing just 2.86 hits per nine innings while his 0.82 ERA leads the Sun Belt and is the 14th-lowest nationally.
Troy takes on No. 12 Auburn tonight in Madison, Ala., at Toyota Field, home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, before traveling to ULM to open league play this weekend.
