Troy, Saini Second Following Opening Round of ASU Spring Classic

PRATTVILLE, Ala. – Troy freshman Manya Saini shot a season-best 73 to lead the Troy women's golf team to a second-place standing following Sunday's opening round of the ASU Spring Classic at the RTJ Capitol Hill Judge Course. The round was pushed back by 90 minutes due to frost on the course.
Saini carded three birdies during her round of 2-over on the par-71 course, with a pair coming on the par-3 third and 12th and one on the par-4 18th. Laura Fangmeyer is just four shots back in a tie for fourth place after carding a birdie on the par-5 15th during her round of 6-over 77.
Troy shot 308 as a team and finds itself only six shots back of Samford in second place. The tournament concludes Monday with 18 holes after the event was shortened to a 36-hole tournament.
Alyssa Mercado, fresh off a strong fall for the Trojans, carded a pair of birdies as she shot 78 on the day to sit a shot back of Fangmeyer in a tie for seventh place. Bruna Roqueta added to a flurry of Trojans in the top 15 as she is tied for 13th place at 9-over through 18 holes, while Jillian Friyia shot 13-over on the day, with a pair of, birdies and is tied for 28th place.
Teams are scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. for Monday's final round.
