TROY, Ala. – Following a remarkable final weekend of the regular season, Tori Hester was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and the third time this season, the conference announced on Wednesday morning.
The Trojans split its matches against App State, the East Division champions, while Hester recorded 57 total kills in the nine sets Troy played, good for 6.33 kills per set.
"Tori finished this Sun Belt weekend and her last weekend playing at Trojan Arena with another tremendous performance," head coach Josh Lauer said. "To be able to finish off your final week of regular season college volleyball with the offensive player of the week award is a fun way to go out on top. I appreciate the Sun Belt coaches recognizing her this week and now we will all set our sights on the postseason and the Sun Belt Volleyball Tournament!"
On Thursday night Hester almost broke another program record as she recorded 35 kills in Troy's 3-2 loss. It's the second-most kills she has had in a match in her career, and the second-most kills by a Trojan in a single match. She was one short of tying the record – 36 – which she set last season against Southern Miss. She recorded her 35 kills in efficient fashion, hitting .291 (35-12-79). It was her third-straight match with 30 or more kills.
In Friday's thrilling 3-1 win, Hester continued to dominant as she had 22 kills and three aces. Her 22nd kill came on the final play of the match as she got a great set from Janelle Stuempfig and spiked it home to close out the regular season on a high note for Troy.
Hester finished the regular season leading the conference in kills (508), points (577.5), kills per set (5.08), points per set (5.78) and service aces (40). She recorded double-digit kills in every single match this season and has done so in the last 48 matches, which is the longest known active streak in Division I women's volleyball.
Troy is now gearing up for the Sun Belt Tournament in Foley, Ala., where it will open its play on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the first round against the No. 5 seed out of the east, Georgia State. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats available at TroyTrojans.com.
