TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The fall season ended on Saturday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility with a successful showing in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic. Troy women's tennis finished at 7-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles through both days.
Doubles started the day for Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva. The pair captured the magic for both their matches. Round two saw the Trojans face Sun Belt rival South Alabama, and they blew out the competition 6-1. The final round placed them against SEC opponent Mississippi State, who they defeated in singles yesterday. The match stayed tight against Maria Rizzolo / Chiara Di Genova, but Troy's pair routed them in the end to finish the day at 2-0.
One round of singles remained, and the pair of juniors continued their success with sweeps. Guirguis took on Auburn's Julie Bedard and allowed one point in the first set, 6-1, and two in the second, 6-2, for the victory. She finished the tournament at 3-0 in singles. Meanwhile, Avdeeva faced a Georgia Bulldog named Sarah Branicki. The St. Petersburg, Russia native handled the opposition in set one, 6-3, before dominating the second, 6-1.
Women's tennis takes a break for the winter before resuming with the spring opener against Kennesaw State.
