Women’s Tennis Closes Out Play at the Samford Fall Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team closed out competition at the Samford Fall Invitational in strong fashion on Sunday, as it went 6-3 overall, including 4-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles.
Troy went 1-1 in doubles play on Sunday, as Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally defeated Samford's Margaret Jaraczewski and Libby Blair, 7-6. The duo went 2-0 this weekend when competing with each other. The other Troy pairing that competed today – Gabrielle Leslie and Emilia Namyslo – fell 7-6 to Samford's Grace Keller and Elena Liakonis.
The Trojans had a strong singles showing, as it went 5-1 in its six matches against Central Arkansas. Valeriia Avdeeva had a strong showing winning 6-1, 6-2 over Ting-An Chen. Maria Guirguis also won in straight sets defeating Harden Shigemasu, 6-0, 6-4.
The other two Troy victories came in 10-point super tiebreakers. Leslie defeated Vichatraporn Vimuktananda, 6-7, 7-5, 10-8, while Leena Metwally defeated Nano Kazama, 6-1, 2-6, 10-4. Seohyun Park defeated Namyslo, 7-6, 2-6, 10-8. Ramadan-Amin fell to Konomi Miyakawa, 6-2, 6-0.
The Trojans are back in action at the ITA Southern Regional next Thursday (Oct. 10) through Tuesday (Oct. 15).
