Women’s Tennis Wraps Up ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Ala. – After day three of the ITA Southern Regional, the Troy women's tennis program finds itself out at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

Troy entered Saturday with two players remaining in the main draw: Maria Guirguis and Leena Metwally. Both Trojans faced SEC programs in round two, with Guirguis falling in the first set, 6-2, to Ava Hrastar from Auburn. The International Liberty School graduate kept the second set tight but couldn't force a third on a 6-4 loss.

That left Metwally as the lone Trojan remaining against LSU's Anita Sahdiieva. Both sides battled but Metwally would lose in a 6-3, 6-3 sweep, eliminating Troy from contention in the main draw.

Gabrielle Leslie earned Troy's lone win on day three with a tight victory over Auburn's Ava Esposito Cogan. Leslie and Cogan went back and forth, forcing a tiebreaker that had the Barbados native take home a 7-5 win. She followed in by sweeping the Power-4 opponent, 6-4.

The Trojans await the Scarlet and Black Open in Jonesboro, Ark. from Oct. 25-27 with two tournaments remaining.
