Men’s Tennis Wraps Up First Fall Tournament at the Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, Ga. – The Troy men's tennis team wrapped up its first weekend of the fall season at the Mercer Gridiron Classic on Sunday with a 2-0 doubles record and a 3-1 singles record.
In doubles, Hiiro Sakamoto and Luciano Alcocer defeated the Jacksonville State duo of David Krasner and Matei Palcau, 6-4, in the 'Flight B' doubles east draw final. In an extra match, Henrique de Brito and Nicolas Simkin recorded a 6-2 win over Theophile Joly and Nicolas Dispas from Furman.
In singles, Alcocer added his second finals win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Matej Laibl from Chattanooga in the 'Flight B2' east draw final. Simkin had a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mercer's Marceau Foulihoux in the 'Flight A2' southwest draw final. Sakamoto competed against Bruno Vietri from North Florida in an extra match and came away with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
The only loss of the day for Troy came in the 'Flight B1' east draw final, as de Brito fell to Krasner of Jacksonville State, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
The Trojans return to the court on Friday, Oct. 11, for the ITF Futures in Harlingen, Texas.
