Women’s Tennis Completes Bobcat Invitational, Avdeeva Finishes Perfect in Singles

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final day of the Bobcat Invitational on Sunday saw the Troy women's tennis program finish the tournament 10-4 in singles and 2-4 in doubles on the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Two rounds of doubles headlined the day, and Gabrielle Leslie / Emilia Namyslo found Troy's lone victory over Texas State's Kiana Graham / Tadiwanashe Mauchi. The contest remained tight until the Trojans took control for a 6-4 win.

Valeriia Avdeeva continued her perfect weekend in singles competition, finishing 3-0 after a contest with Lucia Fernandez from ULM. Avdeeva's victory came in come-from-behind fashion as she fell in set one 7-5. Set two saw the Russia native tie the match on a 6-4 victory, leaving set three as the decider. Neither side saw separation, but Avdeeva clutched in the end, 10-8.

Troy found two more victories in singles play via Maria Guirguis and Namyslo. Guirguis made short work of the Texas State opposition on a 6-3, 6-2 sweep. Meanwhile, Namyslo and Ireland Simme (Texas State) split the first two sets, 7-6 and 6-4, respectively. Set three was all Namyslo as she routed Simme 10-4.

The Trojans await next weekend, where they close out the fall schedule in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic.
