LOXLEY, Ala. – Jake Springer shot 4-under to lead Troy to a ninth-place finish at the Steelwood Collegiate Championship, which wrapped Sunday with 18 holes at the Steelwood Golf Club.

Springer finished in a tie for 16^th place, his second straight event leading the Trojans after he won the Everett GMC Classic earlier this month. He tied for seventh in the field with 14 birdies over his three rounds, and he tied for second, playing the par 3s to a tune of 2-under for the weekend. The Trojans senior closed out the weekend, carding a 2-under 70 on Sunday after shooting 3-under in the second round.

Troy finished fifth as a team, with 59 birdies on the weekend and fourth on the par 3s thanks to a 3.18 average over the three rounds. However, the Trojans struggled with bogeys, carding 58 over the three rounds, the second-most in the field.

Pablo Gracia finished in the red for the weekend as he tied for 28^th place at 1-under after shooting 3-under in Saturday's two rounds and 2-over on Sunday. He finished the tournament tied for fourth with 15 birdies.

No. 12 Illinois won the team title by four shots over Kennesaw State, while Kansas State, Rice and Memphis rounded out the top five. Troy finished just one shot back of Kentucky and picked up victories over South Alabama, Nebraska, Louisiana Tech, East Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Lee Poppell carded four birdies and shot even on Sunday to finish the weekend at 1-over par and tied for 37^thplace, while Nick Fowlkes and Grant Yerger tied for 63^rd place at 9-over.

The Trojans' fall schedule is complete and they are off until mid-February when they travel to Laredo, Texas, for The Border Olympics.
