Women’s Golf Wraps Day One of The Ally

WEST POINT, Miss. – Troy women's golf sits in a tie for 11th place following Monday's opening round of The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State at the Old Waverly Golf Course. The Trojans are just nine shots back of sixth place in a field loaded with top 75 teams.
Laura Fangmeyer is Troy's clubhouse leader in a tie for 24th place after shooting 1-over, thanks to birdies around both sides of the turn, both par 5s. She added 13 pars and three bogeys in her round of 73, while Victoria Stutts is tied for 51st place at 5-over for the day, which included three birdies.
Troy was playing well through its first eight holes of the day – the Trojans started on No. 10 – as they sat even par as a team heading to the 17th. However, Troy was 16-over among its countable scores on the 17th and 18th.
No. 11 Vanderbilt is the day one leader at 11-under par, while No. 3 Mississippi State, Florida, No. 19 Auburn and ULM round out the top five.
Katelynn Altese raced out to a 3-under after the first seven holes, thanks to five birdies and three bogeys before her card settled at 78 for the round, good for a tie for 62nd place with teammate Alyssa Mercado, who carded four birdies in her round. Manya Saini rounded out the day for the Trojans in a tie for 75th place at 8-over.
Troy will play Tuesday morning's second round, along with Sam Houston State and UAB.
