JONESBORO, Ark. – Laura Fangmeyer shot her third round under-par this season and sits in second place on the individual leaderboard, while Troy is second as a team following Monday's opening two rounds of the Lady Red Wolves Fall Classic at the Sage Meadows Golf Club.
Fangmeyer carded seven birdies over her two rounds, including five during her afternoon round of 3-under 69, her second in the 60s this fall. Starting on the third hole due to the shotgun start, Fangmeyer birdied her final three holes of the day after picking up bogeys on two of her first five holes.
Troy shot 1-over in the second round after an 8-over in the first round to move within five shots of ULM for the team title. The Warhawks carded a 3-under in the morning but stumbled in the afternoon to shoot 7-over. The Trojans carded 30 birdies as a team, the second-most in the field, while Fangmeyer and Victoria Stutts are tied for third with seven individually.
Fangmeyer is four shots back of ULM's Anna Andrysova for individual medalist honors after the Warhawk golfer shot 66 in the morning and 73 in the afternoon, while Katelynn Altese is a shot back of Fangmeyer, along with Samford's Anika Richards.
Altese found the red for the first time this fall (first Trojan other than Fangmeyer to shoot under-par this year), shooting 2-under in the second round thanks to five birdies, including two to open the round. She opened the day with a 2-over 74 and sits in a tie for third at even par.
Stutts continued the strong start to her Troy career with a pair of 73s to enter the clubhouse in a tie for ninth place. Stutts led Troy with a 1-over in the opening round thanks to a trio of birdies and added five more in the afternoon but battled four bogeys and a double.
Alyssa Mercado is tied for 44th place at 8-over par with five birdies on her card, while Mathilda Ringblom is tied for 69th in her collegiate debut at 14-over par. Playing as an individual, Brinson Hall is tied for 65th place at 13-over.
