LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Troy men's golf team sat in fifth place when the horn sounded late Monday evening, halting play due to darkness during the second round of the Everett Buick GMC Classic at Chenal Country Club.
The Trojans are 3-under, with four of the five golfers on the course needing just one hole to close out the second round, while Nick Fowlkes has three holes remaining.
Troy is 9-under through the posted scores in the second round after shooting 6-over in the opening round. The Trojans' opening round was marred by the signing of an incorrect scorecard, which cost the team three strokes between what would have been counted and what ended up being the fourth bag in the round.
Fowlkes and Jake Springer are currently tied for fifth place at 5-under, with Fowlkes sitting at 3-under in the second round with three holes to play, while Springer is one hole away from closing out a round of 6-under. Lee Poppell is tied for 40th place at 3-over and Grant Yerger is tied for 51st place at 6-over. Pablo Gracia is 1-under in the second round with a hole to go after he was disqualified from the opening round.
Teams will close out the second round Tuesday morning beginning at 9 a.m. and immediately begin play in the third round.
