Troy Track and Field Wraps Up Samford Clash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala- Troy wrapped up the Samford Clash with seven podiums and 14 athletes placing within the top 10 across various events at the Birmingham Crossplex Friday evening. Â
"Today was a good day for both the men and women as a group. On Thursday Kady Schwietz was two seconds from tying the school in the pentathlon and competed very well at the Samford Multi," head coach Marrc Davis said.Â
In the Samford Multi Kady Schwietz finished second in the heptathlon and with a new personal record of 3523 points. She also set a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 11.46m. Â
Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente scored 3173 points in the heptathlon. She set a new personal record in the 60m hurdles with a 9.43 while placing third in the long jump with a jump of 5.49m. Â
"Today at the Samford Invitational several athletes found success against a very strong field. Biniosa Ezukuse continued her success this season with a lifetime PR while breaking the indoor school record in the shot put placing 2nd. Joy Edward had a huge day personally in the same event finishing with a PR of almost one meter. This mark breaks the national record for her country of St Lucia. Altwayne Bedward continues to improve with a strong second-place finish in the men's shot put. Tydreke Thomas continued his strong start to the season with a PR and number 2 all-time mark at Troy with 6.62 in the men's 60m. This was also good enough to place at the top of the field winning the event. The jumps squad had several strong performances. The lady triple jumpers, Jordan Bailey and Catherine Forbes finished 2 and 3 respectively. Haruki Sakai finished with a PR in the 60m and followed it up with a 3rd place finish in the long jump," Davis said.Â

Tydreke Thomas put together another great outing in the men's 60m with a first place finish and a new personal record of 6.62 seconds. Â
Biniosa Ezukuse continues to bring in the silver medals in the shot put with a throw of 15.72m, where she also set a new school record. She was followed by Joy Edward who placed fifth with a throw of 14.46m. Â
In the women's triple jump, Troy saw two podium finishes. Jordan Bailey and Catherine Forbes finished second and third with jumps of 11.72m and 11.55m, respectively. Â
Cadi Rowe finished just off the podium in the women's 3000 crossing the line in fourth with a time of 10.19.84. Â
On the men's field side of the meet, Altwayne Bedward finished second in the shot put with a throw of 16.88m. While in the long jump Haruki Sakai, placed third with a jump of 6.89m. Â
