Troy Volleyball Falls to Miami, 3-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Troy women's volleyball team fell to Miami, 3-0, to open its play in the Carolina Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Troy (0-4) fought to the brink in all three sets, scoring at least 18 points each time. Amiah Butler led the way for the Trojans with 17 kills – a season-high – and a .556 hitting percentage. Miami (4-1) found just enough in the tank at the end of each set to pull away from the Trojans.
Set 1
Troy jumped out to an early 5-2 lead thanks to a couple of kills from Tori Hester, but Miami heated up on a 6-1 run and never looked back. The Canes took the set 25-18. The Trojans had some strong moments, including 13 kills as a team.
Set 2
The Trojans pushed Miami to the edge in the second set but came up just short. Miami won the set 25-23. As a team the Trojans played well offensively in the set, recording 11 kills on a .364 hitting percentage. Miami had its best offensive set, scoring 18 kills with a hitting percentage of .593.
Set 3
The beginning of the set was a back-and-forth affair, with each team trading points. The Trojans went on a 6-1 run of their own to go up 15-10. A 6-0 run by Miami allowed the Canes to tie it up at 19-19, before winning the last two points to win the set 25-23, and the match 3-0.
