TROY, Ala. – Starting with the "Peach State" teams and ending with back-to-back in Trojan Arena, the 2023-24 Troy women's basketball Sun Belt Conference schedule was unveiled by the league Tuesday morning.
"The release of our Sun Belt Conference schedule ignites a hunger in us," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "I'll place it where we can all see it every day. We look at each opponent and game date and start dreaming, believing, planning and working to win each and every game on that schedule."
Sun Belt play opens on Dec. 30 for the Trojans as they remain comfortable in the confines of Trojan Arena when they take on the Panthers of Georgia State. Troy continues its path against the Peach State teams when it hits the road to Georgia Southern on Jan. 4.
On Jan. 6, the first road trip heads north to Conway, S.C., where the Trojans get a shot at redemption against Coastal Carolina.
Trojan Arena awaits the women's basketball program as it welcomes Louisiana on Wednesday (Jan. 10) and James Madison on Saturday (Jan. 13) for two doubleheader events.
Troy's next meeting with Louisiana comes quickly when they travel to the Cajundome on Jan. 20, following a pit stop in San Marcos, Texas, to face Texas State (Jan. 18).
A return home pits the Trojans against the defending regular-season champions, Southern Miss, on Jan. 25, before another doubleheader date with Arkansas State on Saturday, Jan. 27.
The longest road trip for the Trojans follows the home swing with three-straight road matchups at ULM (Feb. 1), Southern Miss (Feb. 3) and the long-awaited rematch of the controversial second-round exit from last year's SBC Tournament, Old Dominion (Feb. 7).
SBC play pauses for the second game of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Feb. 10 before Troy resumes league play with back-to-back doubleheaders at home against Texas State and ULM on Feb. 15 and Feb. 17, respectively.
The final road trip of the year brings the Trojans to Jonesboro for the second matchup against the Red Wolves on Feb. 21. Troy then takes its talents to the Mitchell Center for the first matchup of the in-state rivalry against South Alabama (Feb. 24).
Troy's regular season-finale weekend places them back at home with its sole matchup against Appalachian State on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Then, the Alabama rivals will do battle for the second time in one week as the Trojans welcome the Jaguars to end the regular season on Friday, March 1.
All the SBC battles culminate into a six-day war at the Bay Center Arena of Pensacola, Fla., where the Sun Belt Tournament will occur from March 5-11.
"I appreciate our Sun Belt Conference leadership for working to improve the overall conference schedule for the 2023-2024 season," Rigby said. "One of the upgrades is that we now have a buffer of an extra day between some road games to allow our athletes to recover and properly prepare. Of course, I'm thrilled we play five doubleheader games with our men's team this year. Our fans have asked to bring back doubleheaders, and we fought for that. I'm sure Coach Scott Cross and I will be calling on our fans to prioritize being in Trojan Arena to show our Trojan spirit for those games."
