Letterwinners Weekend Sees Troy and Georgia Southern Meet in Pivotal Sun Belt Series

TROY, Ala. – With only two games separating them in the Sun Belt Conference standings, Troy will look to add to their impressive resume as they get set to host Georgia Southern in a pivotal weekend series beginning on Friday, May 5 at 6 p.m. from Riddle-Pace Field. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Troy Sports Radio Network.
This weekend Troy Baseball will honor all former Letterwinners with special recognition for the members of the 2013 Sun Belt Championship team as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Sun Belt Championship. In addition, all returning Letterwinners will receive four (4) complimentary, reserved tickets for each game they attend, a gift courtesy of the baseball program, and the 2013 team will receive a commemorative poster.
These two programs met four times in 2022, with the last coming in the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Eagles won all four meetings, with the Trojans' last win coming in 2021.

Georgia Southern comes to Troy 13-8 and third in the Sun Belt, while the Trojans boast an 11-10 record and sit in a five-way tie for sixth. Troy enters the weekend with their RPI sitting at 31.
Troy is coming off their fifth straight win over Jacksonville State in the midweek, where Shane Lewis hit his 22nd and 23rd home run of the season. Lewis is now in a tie for second for most home runs in a single season needing only four more to become the all-time record holder.
With 68 RBIs, Lewis is 14 RBIs shy of also becoming the leader for most RBIs in a single season in Troy history. In addition, he leads the Sun Belt Conference in home runs, RBIs, and OPS and is top five in the nation in the same categories.
With 83 home runs as a team, the 2023 Troy Trojans have already set a record for most home runs in a season during the BBCOR bats era. In addition, it is the most home runs a Troy team has hit since 2010, when they connected for 100. The 83 home runs rank sixth most in history during a single season.
With six wins on the season, Grayson Stewart already matches his win total from last season, throwing four quality starts and the first Trojan complete game since 2016. Stewart has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the Sun Belt, as he ranks in the top 10 in ERA (3.03), innings pitched (59.1), and strikeouts (65).
Stewart is one of four Trojans in the top 10 ten in batters struck out in the Sun Belt, as Ben Thompson (73), Brady Fuller (70), and Zach Fruit (65) also are ranked.
With 483 total strikeouts going into the weekend, Troy has the ninth most in program history. After leading the Sun Belt last season and setting a program record of 9.7 strikeouts per game, Troy is well on their way to surpassing the record of 541 strikeouts as they are averaging 10.9 per nine this season which is 11th in the nation.
