TROY, Ala. – Familiar foes and new enemies, highlighted by a trip to Auburn and two matches hosted in Mobile against Kennesaw and Queens of Charlotte in the non-conference segment, make up the 2023 schedule released by the Troy women's soccer team on Wednesday morning.
"Our 2023 schedule has good competitive diversity to it, with our non-conference having a mix of well-seasoned opponents alongside teams similar to us with a new coaching staff," head coach Stuart Gore said.
Two home exhibitions against Middle Georgia State (Aug. 7) and UAB (Aug. 12) tease the season opener at Lipscomb on Aug. 17. The only power-five opponent on the schedule is next on Aug. 20, with the team traveling to take on Auburn for the third time in four years.
A four-day trip to "The Cage" in Mobile, Ala. pits Troy against Kennesaw State (Aug. 24) for the first time since 2018, and the first-ever meeting with Queens of Charlotte on Aug. 27. The month of August concludes on Aug. 31 with Troy's regular-season home opener when it invites Alabama A&M.
Alabama A&M kicks off the Trojans' longest home span of three as Alabama State (Sept. 3) and Samford (Sept. 7) come to the Troy Soccer Complex before they conclude the non-conference schedule at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., on Sept. 10 against North Florida.
The Sun Belt Conference schedule kicks off a week later on Sept. 17 as Troy splits its first four conference games between home and away by going to Appalachian State and Texas State (Sept. 24), with Southern Miss in between on Sept. 21 at the Troy Soccer Complex – home match against Marshall completes the home-away split on Sept. 30.
October begins in Jonesboro, Ark., when Troy ventures to Arkansas State (Oct. 5) with the annual in-state rivalry scheduled next against South Alabama at the Troy Soccer Complex on Oct. 8.
Coastal Carolina follows the Trojans' rivalry game with their only back-to-back home match of the league schedule on Oct. 14.
A visit to Brown Stadium to face ULM on Oct. 19 gives Troy a brief road trip before it celebrates the home finale by inviting Louisiana to Troy on Oct. 22. Troy's regular season will conclude in Statesboro, Ga., when they visit Georgia Southern on Oct. 25.
"The Sun Belt for women's soccer gets stronger every season, and we must be ready to grind and fight every week when it starts," Gore said. "We're going into the season with a game-by-game attitude and mindset."
After the regular season, the Trojans set their sights on the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Foley, Ala., scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 5.
