Troy Athletics Hands Out Top Awards at Trojan Tribute

TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics dished out its top honors Wednesday evening in its annual Trojan Tribute Awards Show inside Trojan Arena. Awards were handed out for top athletic and academic performances, with Carlton Martial, Leanna Johnson and Troy Football bringing home the major on-field awards.

Martial was named the Male Athlete of the Year; Johnson took home Female Athlete of the Year honors while the football team earned the OneTROY Team Award. In total, 17 awards were handed out; Trojan Tribute awards are based on the Fall 2022, Winter 2023 and Spring 2022 seasons.

Martial was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year after setting NCAA, Sun Belt and Troy records for career tackles. Johnson earned All-Sun Belt First Team and NFCA All-Region Second Team honors last spring after posting a 20-12 record in the circle with a 2.17 ERA, 242 strikeouts and an .184 opposing batting average in 196.2 innings of work. Troy Football won Sun Belt and Cure Bowl titles, posted a program record for wins and finished the season ranked No. 19 nationally in the AP Top 25.

Track athlete Maxwell George received the top honor of year, the Trojan Way Leadership Award. This award is given to the student-athlete who is the epitome of a Troy student-athlete and is the true definition of a student-athlete leader both in campus and in the community.  Â

Troy's top academic honors were given to Lauren Locke (track & field), Ashley Guenveur (volleyball), Isabella Mitchell (volleyball), Savannah Poling (volleyball), Katie Lively (softball), Amara Anderson (volleyball) for the female graduating student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA, while Mason Bennett and Gabriel Peacock from track & field won the Clements Award for the male student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.
