Troy Track & Field Concludes Sun Belt Outdoor Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Through the three-day Sun Belt Outdoor Championships at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, the Troy men finished sixth and the women took home 11th place.
Javon Osbourne had his second straight impressive day at the meet, performing in the men's discus throw alongside Anthony Symile. Despite fouling on his first throw, the sophomore improved on his second with a mark of 54.26 to hold second. Then, he improved on his third with a peak of 54.78m. Arkansas State's Jacob Tracy finished his attempts with a throw of 55.79m to push Osbourne down to third, but he held firm for the podium. Symile was the closest to touching Osbourne for the podium when he tossed a 52.06m throw on his fifth attempt for fourth.
The high jump event saw another top-10 finish for the men's side with Jaggerd Moore. After failing on his first attempt at the 1.95m mark, the freshman made the leap to lock himself into the top 10. Moore cleared the 2.00m mark on his first attempt, where he maxed out for a seventh-place finish.
The 4x100m relay races saw two top-five finishes for Troy. On the men's side, Tydreke Thomas, Jaleel Gilbert, Austin Cowans and Alex Robinson teamed up in section two to finish fourth with a time of 40.81 – finished fourth overall in the event. For the women, Shanyah Washington, Maya Kelly, Kierra Montgomery and Naveyh Frost pulled a fourth-place finish of their own, winning section one with a time of 45.60.
Both Tanner Guest and Washington qualified for the championship events in the 800m and 100m, respectively. Guest, who finished sixth on Friday to be eligible for the event, stayed constant with a sixth-place finish in the championship at 2:15.09. For Washington, she shined in the 100m dash, staying put in eighth place when she came across the finish line at 11.74.
Julian Martin-Rogers qualified for the men's 110m hurdle event on Friday with a sixth-place finish. In the championship race, the senior remained competitive with a time of 14.29 for sixth.
The Trojans await the rest of the nation to see how many athletes get a bid to the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla, on May 24.
