PROJECTED STARTING PITCHERS
Friday – RHP Grayson Stewart (7-2) 3.13 ERA vs. RHP Patrick Copen (2-7) 5.84 ERA
Saturday – LHP Logan Ross 32-1) 3.96 ERA vs. LHP Raymond Pacella (0-6) 5.30
Sunday – TBA vs. RHP Zac Addkison (3-6) 4.40 ERA
Grayson Stewart and Logan Ross will get starts this weekend, as both saw wins in their last outing against Georgia Southern. Stewart ranks among the top 10 Sun Belt pitchers in multiple categories, including ERA (3.13), opposing batting average (2.49), innings pitched (65.1), batters struck out (71), and wins (7).
For the third time this season, a Trojan took home Sun Belt Player of the Week honors, with Tremayne Cobb Jr. the most recent recipient of the award, the Conference announced Tuesday. Helping Troy to a 3-1 week that included wins over Jacksonville State and Georgia Southern, Cobb Jr. was a big-time contributor. Going 11-for-16, he hit .688 in the four games to lead the Trojans. In addition, Cobb Jr. had 11 hits and 11 RBIs, scored seven times, totaled 18 bases, and had a 1.135 slg%. Cobb Jr. joins Shane Lewis as the other Trojan to take home the award this year.
Trojan slugger Shane Lewis sits at 26 home runs this season, ranking second most nationally. He needs only one home run to become the leader for most home runs in a single season in Troy baseball history, and his 26 home runs are the most by a Sun Belt player since 2009. With 72 RBIs, Lewis is 10 away from holding the single-season record set in 2018 by Joey Denison.
More history can be made over the weekend as Troy pitchers have combined to strike out 518 batters this season, putting them in fifth all-time for most in a season. Twenty-four more strikeouts would push the 2023 Trojans into most in program history for a single season.
Putting himself in the record books as well is William Sullivan. Sullivan has been hit by a pitch 22 times this season and 42 in his career. He is now tied for first place for most hit-by-pitches in his career and is four away from setting the season record.
Caleb Bartolero leads the team this season in doubles with 16. With 49 total in his career here at Troy, Bartolero is looking to become only the sixth Trojan ever to hit 50 or more career doubles.
Bartolero, Lewis, Stewart, and Sullivan were all named to the top 50 for their position by D1 Baseball. Lewis was ranked the No. 6 outfielder, Sullivan No. 17 first baseman, Bartolero No. 30 catcher, and Stewart came in as the No. 43 starting pitcher.
Know Your Foe: Marshall
The Thundering Herd enter the weekend having lost nine straight games, with their last win coming on April 23 against Georgia Southern. Marshall is hitting .260 as a team which puts them 13 out of 14 teams in the Conference, and as a staff has an ERA of 6.39 putting them eighth.
