Troy Heads to Sunshine State for South Florida Invitational

TROY, Ala. – A journey to the USF Track & Field Stadium awaits the Troy track and field roster as it prepares for a two-day South Florida Invitational from April 7-8.
The meet is split with the men competing all day Friday, beginning at noon in the hammer throw and ending at 8:15 p.m. at the 10,000m run. Then, the women control Saturday with the hammer throw event kicking off the day at 11 a.m. and the 1,600m relay ending at 7:25 p.m.

Four winners claimed the gold medal at the UAB Spring Invite, including Javon Osbourne, who topped the charts in the discus throw to break a facility record at 55.59m. The sophomore also took fourth in the javelin throw with a 51.73m throw.
Two more on the men's side grabbed gold in Cole Stewart and Jasai Taylor. Stewart joined Osbourne in the javelin throw, being the only competitor to hit above 60m at 60.53m for 10 points to Troy. On the track side, Taylor's biggest opponent was Lucas Baggott from Trevecca Nazarene in the 400m hurdles. The race was close, but Taylor triumphed by 0.63 seconds to win heat one and eventually the event.
For the women, Amelia Nettles and the Trojans dominated the hammer throw event, sweeping the podium. At first, Nettles launched to the 46.30m mark before Abby Grosinske (45.27m) and Leah Kennedy (42.81m) followed her in second and third, respectively.
