Women’s Tennis Win Streak Snapped at ULM

MONROE, La. – The end of a six-match win streak came on Sunday afternoon at the Heard Tennis Stadium when Troy fell to ULM 5-2.

A loss by the Trojans (13-6, 6-4 SBC) for the first time since March 25 against App State drops them back to the seventh spot in the Sun Belt Conference standings and moves the Warhawks (5-16, 3-7 SBC) into sole possession of the 10^th seed with one match remaining.

The day started well for Troy after Andrea Widing / Valeriia Avdeeva took care of business, 6-4, on court two. However, back-to-back losses on courts one and three dropped the match's first point for the first time since March 26 to Marshall.

Franziska Ahrend continued the senior dominance into singles when she tied the match, 1-1, with a sweep, 6-3, 6-3 on court six.

Courts four and five put the Warhawks one point from victory, 3-1, as Maria Guirguis fell first, 6-4, 6-4, before Olivia Elliott followed her, 6-4, 6-2. Avdeeva tried to keep Troy alive on court three after she split the first two sets, 4-6, 6-2. In the third set, the freshman battled tough until Alice Klinteby pulled away late for a 6-4 win, 4-1.

Hagar Amin ended the day positive for Troy after Kristina Kukaras fell 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 10-4 to push the score to 5-1. On court two, Amin and Oleksandra Balaba fought to a tiebreaker set in the first where the Egypt native stood tall, 7-6 (7-3). After a 6-4 loss in set two, Amin took over in set three for a 10-5 win to end the day, 5-2.
