Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season with Victory at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Troy wrapped its regular season with a 4-1 victory over Coastal Carolina Sunday morning at the Stevens Tennis Complex to run the Trojans' winning streak to three matches heading into the Sun Belt Tournament next weekend.

Troy (17-6) finishes league play with an even 4-4 record, with all four of the losses coming by the slimmest of margins; 4-3 in all four. The Trojans broke a trend Sunday as they won a Sun Belt match for the first time when losing the doubles point.

Coastal (10-12, 1-7) won on courts two and three in doubles to take the 1-0 lead, but that would be the Chants' only point of the match.

Yeray Andres Pastor quickly put Troy on the board, winning the opening set 6-1 before his opponent retired, while Noah Martens won 6-1, 6-0 on court four to put the Trojans up 2-1. Vito Llinares bounced back from a loss Saturday to win 6-2, 6-1 on court five before Carles Anton clinched the victory for the Trojans with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win on court two.

Mario Martinez Serrano was in a third set on court one, while Francisco Erramuspe was up a set on court six when the match finished.

Troy awaits its opening round opponent for the Sun Belt Tournament, which opens play on Wednesday in Peachtree City, Gal. The bracket is expected to be announced Sunday evening.
