Seniors Go Undefeated on Senior Day; Troy Wins Fourth Straight

TROY, Ala. – A day of celebration for seniors Franziska Ahrend and Andrea Widing peaked on a 4-2 victory over Louisiana on Monday morning at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Senior day saw the Trojans (12-5, 5-3 SBC) claim their fourth straight victory to sweep the weekend and position themselves in seventh with three matches remaining. On the other side for the Ragin' Cajuns (8-9, 3-6 SBC), they fall to under .500 while losing to the Trojans for the eighth time in the last 10 matches.
The day didn't start bright when Hagar Amin / Kristina Kukaras fell on court one in double, 6-3. However, the seniors took charge on courts two and three to secure match's first point. Widing was the first alongside Valeriia Avdeeva for the 6-2 victory, followed by Ahrend with Maria Guirguis, 7-5.
Ahrend secured her perfect day on court six for singles to give Troy the 2-0 advantage. Of the singles, matches, Ahrend was the only Trojan to sweep, 6-4, 6-3. The Ragin' Cajuns responded with their first point when Momoko Yoshimura defeated Olivia Elliott on court five. Elliott battled in the second set after falling 6-1 in the first. The junior forced a tiebreaker and brought Yoshimura to the brink but failed to finish, 7-6 (8-6).
Both sides split the next two points, 3-2, on court one and three with Kukaras putting Troy one point from victory with a tight 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory before Avdeeva fell, 5-7, 6-2, 4-6.
On a perfect day for the seniors, a freshman in Guirguis locked up the victory for Troy on court four. A winner of set one, 6-3, Cristina Tchanichev battled back to win a tiebreaker set two (7-6, 7-5) to set up the extra set. While things stayed close, Guirguis pulled out the 6-4 victory for Troy, 4-2.
