OPELIKA, Ala. – Jake Springer and Will Simpson shot under-par in Tuesday's third round of the Tiger Invitational at the RTJ Grand National Lakes Course, while Brantley Scott and Nicklas Borrmann finished under-par for the event to lead Troy to a second-place finish as a team.
The Trojans finished 10-under par, and the 854-team score ranks as the eighth-lowest in program history. No. 7 Auburn won the team title on its home course, while Chattanooga, Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic rounded out the top five behind Troy.
Scott shot 1-over in Tuesday's final round with two birdies and three bogeys to finish tied for eighth, his fourth top-10 finish in six events this season for the sophomore. Scott finished the week 6-under par for Troy's second-lowest 54-hole score of the year.
Borrmann was just two shots back of a top-10 finish as he tied for 15th place at 3-under for the week following a 1-over 73 on Tuesday after opening with back-to-back rounds in the red. The Troy senior carded six birdies on the day, finishing with 15 birdies and an eagle for the week.
Springer shot four spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 24th place, his second top-25 finish of the year, after turning in a card with four birdies for a 1-under 71. He finished with a flurry as he birdied No. 16 and No. 17 to push his card into the red for the day and even for the tournament.
Will McFadden was a shot back in a tie for 28th after shooting even on Tuesday, while Simpson jumped 15 spots into a tie for 56th after a 1-under round to close out play.
