Trojans and Golden Eagles Meet for First Time as Sun Belt Conference Foes

TROY, Ala. – It's another big weekend of Sun Belt Conference baseball in Troy as the Trojans ride a six-game win streak into their series with Southern Miss from Riddle-Pace Field. The action is set to begin on Friday, March 31, at 6 p.m., followed by a Saturday contest at 3 p.m., and concludes Sunday, April 2, at 1 p.m. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The series will mark the first time these programs have met each other as Sun Belt Conference members, with it being three years since the last time these two teams squared off. Troy and Southern Miss have played 31 times in baseball dating back to the 1998 season. The Golden Eagles lead the series, 19-12, including a 9-7 victory over the Trojans on March 10, 2020, which turned out to be the last game for the Trojans that season before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Trojans will look to repeat the success of last weekend as they swept ULM to get back to .500 in conference pay. Southern Miss and Troy are even in the conference standings at 3-3.
The offense for Troy is clicking again as five Trojans enter the weekend with more than 20 RBIs on the season. Shane Lewis continues to lead the attack with 42 on the season, which is second in the nation to go along with a team-high 13 home runs leading the conference and sixth in the country.
The weekend will showcase premier pitching matchups as Brady Fuller starts his seventh Friday night, as the Golden eagles will counter with Tanner Hall. Fuller and Hall rank among the top five in innings pitched in the conference. Hall's 2.45 ERA is second in the league, while Fuller will be looking to add to his strike-out tally, which sits at 38, good enough for seventh in the conference.

In 2023, the Golden Eagles have played 10 games that have been decided by two runs or less this season and are 7-3 in those contests. As a team, the Golden Eagles are only hitting .266 on the season, but their pitching staff holds a 4.85 ERA, the third lowest in the Sun Belt.
