Southern Miss Wins Pitching Duel Over Troy

TROY, Ala. – A pitching duel took place Friday night from Riddle-Pace Field that saw Southern Miss get the best of Troy 4-1, as preseason Sun Belt Pitcher of the year; Tanner Hall tossed a complete game to end the Trojans six-game winning streak.
Pitching a shutout into the eighth inning, Hall (5-2) went nine innings facing 35 batters, only allowing one run on six hits while striking out six.
For the Trojans, Brady Fuller (2-3) also pitched well but got the loss going a season-high 7.2 innings throwing 113 pitches, allowing four runs on six hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Golden Eagles have now won the past six meetings, with Troy's last win coming in 2015.
It was a one-run advantage for the Golden Eagles (15-9, 4-3) in the top of the eighth inning. Fuller got two quick outs, but a walk and an infield single kept the inning alive for Siade Wilks. In a 3-2 count Wilks connected for the big hit, a three-run home run to make it 4-0 and end Fuller's night.
The home run ended up being the difference because, in the bottom half of the inning, William Sullivan hit his 13th home run of the season to end the shutout and get Troy on the board.
The home run was the only run put across by Troy (19-8, 3-4), as Sullivan and Caleb Bartolero had four of the six hits for the Trojans. Troy had its chances as Kole Myers had his league-leading fourth triple of the season, but it came with two outs, and he was left stranded as the Trojans left a total of seven men on base.
Southern Miss got on the board first in the second inning after an error allowed the runner on second base to come home and score. After that, zeros by both teams were put up until the eighth inning.
Both in the fourth and sixth inning, the Trojans were able to get a runner into scoring position with one out but failed to bring him home.
The series will continue tomorrow, Saturday, April 1st, at 3 p.m. as the Trojans look to even the series with Southern Miss.
