PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Troy tied a program record, shooting 24-under par in a dominant 22-shot victory at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate, which wrapped played Wednesday at the True Blue Course at the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort.
The victory was the first of the season for the Trojans and gave head coach Forrest Schultz's squad a team exemption into the prestigious 2024 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational. The 24-under par matches last year's tally at the Bash at the Beach, on a par-71 course, while the 840 at the Golfweek ranks as the program's best on a par-72 course by seven shots.
After shooting 12-under in Tuesday's second round, the Trojans followed with an 11-under in the final round as four of Troy's five golfers finished in the red. Troy finished the week with 57 combined birdies, second to UConn's 59, but the difference came with Troy's 183 pars compared to 152 by the Huskies.
Troy's win comes on the heels of a second-place finish at Auburn's Tiger Invitational at the beginning of the month and a tie for fourth at Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate a week later.
Brantley Scott finished second in the field individually with 15 overall birdies, while Jason Quinlan was right on his heels with 14 and Jake Springer added 12. Scott and Springer both shot 4-under on the par-4 holes over the course of the tournament to lead the field, and Nicklas Borrmann led the field with a 3-under on the par-3 offerings.
Four Trojans finished in the top nine, paced by Springer at second at 8-under for the week and just one shot off the top line of the leaderboard. He turned in a clean card Wednesday with five birdies, three on the front and two on the back, to shoot a career-best 67.
Brantley Scott completed his turnaround after a tough opening round with his second-straight card in the 60s after shooting a 3-under 69 with four birdies and just one bogey; it was his eighth round in the 60s this season and ninth under par.
Scott and Quinlan tied for fifth place at 5-under par, while Borrmann tied for ninth at 3-under par. Quinlan shot in the red in all three rounds in his first start of the season, including a second straight 71. Borrmann shot 2-under for the second straight round, with two birdies and no bogeys on the day. Will McFadden rounded out the field for the Trojans in a tie for 22nd place after shooting 1-over for the week.
The Trojans are right back to work next Monday and Tuesday at the Mossy Oak Collegiate hosted by Mississippi State.
