PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Troy shot a school-record 12-under par in Tuesday's second round of the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate to grab a 9-stroke lead with one round to play. All five Trojans shot under-par on the day as they combined for 22 birdies and just eight bogeys.
Troy's 12-under par ties program-record for the lowest score relative to par (2009 FSU Spring Break Invitational); the school record for the lowest score in a round is a 273 (-11) on a par-71 course at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
The Trojans entered the day in third place but were eight shots better than anyone else in the field and enter Wednesday's final round with a 9-shot advantage over Delaware and a 12-shot lead over Xavier. The winner of the event receives a team exemption into the prestigious 2024 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.
Brantley Scott paced the Trojans on Tuesday with a 4-under 68 thanks to birdies on back-to-back holes to end his day. Scott's sixth round in the 60s this season moved him 39 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 10th place with teammate Will McFadden.
Scott leads the field with 11 birdies through the first 36 holes, while Jason Quinlan has eight. Nicklas Borrmann is tied for the lead on the par 3s at 2-under, while Scott is 4-under on the par 4s to pace the field.
McFadden shot in the 60s for the first time this season as he turned in a 3-under 69 with three birdies and no bogeys on the day; he also made a big move up the leaderboard as he climbed 21 spots.
Quinlan is Troy's clubhouse leader, tied for fifth at 4-under through 36 holes after shooting 71 on Tuesday, while Jake Springer is a shot back in a tie for seventh after climbing 12 spots following his 3-under 69; his first round in the 60s as well. Borrmann moved 18 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 13th place at 1-under after he carded a 70 in the second round.
Wednesday's final round pairs Troy with Delaware and Xavier beginning at 8:19 a.m. from the first tee box.
