The Trojans are taking a four-game win streak into the week after getting in the win column in conference play with a sweep of ULM. Kristian Asbury earned two of those wins after starting his first career against FAMU and coming into relief against ULM. Asbury didn't allow a single run over 5.1 innings pitched, striking out nine batters and only two hits across the two games. His opponents had a .188 batting average against him.
Outfielder Shane Lewis is up to 13 on the season with two more home runs over the weekend. He sits in third for most home runs in the nation, while his 41 RBIs also rank third in the country. His nine games with multiple RBIs lead the team.
On the mound for the Trojans on Tuesday will be Matt Mercer. Mercer will be making his first start for the Trojans and has made six appearances, all coming out of the bullpen. He is 1-0 on the season, having pitched in 8.1 innings of work with 10 strikeouts. Mercer has also seen time at the plate, hitting .286 with two hits and an RBI.
In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh and two outs with a man on, Kyle Mock launched his fifth home run of the season, giving Troy the lead and the winning run. Mock saved the game with his defense in the top of the ninth as he turned a game-ending double play after throwing the tying run out at the plate. Mock is currently on a 10-game reach base streak, one away from his career high.
One more win would give head coach Skylar Meade his 50th win in his second season at the helm of Troy baseball.
