Trojans Look to Push Early Momentum into Weems Baskin Invitational

TROY, Ala. – After a successful outdoor season opener at the Tiger Track Classic, Troy looks to continue its winning ways all the way to Columbia, S.C., at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track on Friday and Saturday for the Weems Baskin Invitational.
The Trojans open their weekend when the women compete in the hammer throw and pole vault and the men open with the javelin throw at noon on Friday – ends with the 5000m for the men. Saturday kicks off at 10 a.m. with a plethora of events, including the women's 1500m, triple jump and high jump and the men's discus throw. The meet ends at 5 p.m. as the men compete in the 4x400m relay.

Outdoor Opener
Two days at the Hutsell-Rosen Track saw seven Trojans claim a victory to kick off the 2023 outdoor season. Four came via the women's 4x100m relay as Maya Kelly, Kierra Montgomery, Naveyh Frost and Shanyah Washington came together for a time of 46.20 to defeat West Alabama. Tanner Guest became the fifth woman to win an event in the 800m when she fought off the competition by 0.07 seconds.
Alexander Bendig and Cole Stewart were winners on the men's side in the 1500m and javelin throw, respectively. Bendig went back and forth with fellow Trojan, Chance Armstrong, pulling off a final lap of 1:05.956 to win the event. Stewart was Troy's sole winner in a field event, having his second throw go the distance (56.35m) to win the event by over five meters to second-place Luke Etherton from Ole Miss.
