Â
TROY, Ala. – Following a brief stint at home, Troy Softball returns to the road for a five-game round-robin tournament hosted by Jacksonville and North Florida. The event was initially scheduled to be split between the two schools, but due to facility issues, the entire tournament will be played at UNF.
Â
Troy (10-6) is in the midst of playing 17 of 18 games away from the Troy Softball Complex, with the lone home game being Wednesday night's loss to No. 19 Auburn. The Trojans opened their road stretch with a 4-2 mark last week between a mid-week contest at Mercer and tournament at Florida State.
Â
The Trojans enter the weekend holding opponents to a .213 batting average and with a staff ERA of 2.25 behind the arms of Leanna Johnson (7-2, 1.08) and Olivia Cato (2-2, 2.66), while they are led at the plate by a trio of players hitting above .300 in Libby Baker (.382), Taylor McKinney (.357) and Anslee Finch (.351).
Â
The key for the Trojans has been scoring early and keeping the ball in the park when in the circle. Troy is 8-1 on the year when scoring first, 8-0 when scoring three or more runs and 10-1 when it doesn't allow opponents to hit a home run; conversely, the Trojans are 0-5 when their opponent hits a homer.
Â
Troy opens play against Jacksonville with a doubleheader Friday beginning at 10 a.m. (CT) before playing North Florida in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. (CT), the Trojans end the weekend with a single game against Charleston Southern on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
