Troy Opens Conference Play at Georgia State; Doubleheader Set for Saturday

TROY, Ala. – The Trojans are set to open Sun Belt Conference play as they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State from the Georgia State Baseball Complex for a three-game series. With rain in the forecast on Friday, the series will begin on Saturday, March 18, with a doubleheader to be played with game one starting at 12 p.m.
 
Sunday's game will also see a time change, with the first pitch getting moved back an hour for a start time of 1 p.m.
 
After a mid-week loss to Columbia, the Trojans will look to get back in the win column and continue their win streak over the Panthers after a three-game sweep last season at Riddle-Pace Field. Troy controls the overall series with a 40-15 overall record and a 16-11 mark when playing in Atlanta.

Troy will be looking to win its third consecutive Sun Belt opening weekend after a sweep of Louisiana last year and taking two out of three from Georgia Southern in 2021.
 
Two of the four losses for the Trojans have come with Troy leading by three runs at one point during the ball game. Troy is outscoring opponents 52-29 through the first three innings but is being outscored 44-34 through the last three innings.
 
In his fifth game started this season, Lance Gardiner became the second Trojan this season to record five or more RBIs in a game after recording five against Columbia. Gardiner joins Caleb Bartolero, Shane Lewis, and William Sullivan as the only active Trojans with a five or more RBI game.
 
Lewis continues to lead the conference in RBIs with 31. He will be taking a 17-on-base streak into the weekend, reaching safely in every game thus far.
 
Know Your Foe: Georgia State
The Panthers enter the weekend 9-8 on the season. They, like the Trojans, have a .300 team batting average. However, they rank right behind the Trojans in team ERA allowing 5.26 earned runs per game. JoJo Jackson leads the Sun Belt Conference in slugging percentage (.925), while Cameron Jones has 14 stolen bases, also leading the conference.
