TROY, Ala. – Off to a strong start this spring, the Troy women's golf team heads to Lake Jovita, Fla., for the annual Spring Break Shootout hosted by Western Kentucky at the par-71, Lake Jovita South Course. Teams are set for 36 holes Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
Troy opened the spring with a program-record 854 at The Atlantic Invitational and followed a week later, tying for fourth place at The Tchefuncta Invitational. ShaeLee Scarberry has a pair of top-five finishes this spring behind a 70.0 stroke average over her six rounds coming out of the winter break.
Scarberry leads the Trojans with six rounds under par, with five of those playing in the 60s. She's within a stroke of par for the season at 0.89, and all but one of her 18 rounds this season have counted towards the team card.
Head coach Randy Keck will turn to a pair of freshmen this week, with Laura Fangmeyer and Katelynn Altese earning a spot in the lineup. Fangmeyer has five top-25 finishes this year in seven tournaments, including a tie for fourth at The Atlantic to open the spring. She's played five rounds under par, while Altese has three rounds under par this year and is coming off a tie for 18th place performance at The Tchefuncta, Troy's second-best of the event.
Alyssa Mercado, who's third on the team with a 2.89 score vs. par, and Elisabeth Preus, who is third with a 75.5 spring stroke average, will also be on Keck's card for the week.
