Troy Women’s Tennis Heads to the Music City

TROY, Ala. – With the 1-0 start to the spring season, the Troy women's tennis program travels to the Music City of Nashville, Tenn., to battle Tennessee State in the TSU Tennis Complex on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The Trojans (1-0) open the team's road schedule in a first-ever meeting with the Tigers (0-4) in search of their first 2-0 start since the 2008-09 season – finished the season at 13-7.

Season Opening Victory
Despite starting off the season down after doubles competition, the Trojans roared back with five straight singles points to capture the 5-2 victory over Florida A&M.
Freshman Maria Guirguis put the first point of the season on the board for Troy, 1-1, with her first career dual singles victory, 6-1, 6-3. Her follow Egyptian native was next to win, 2-1, when Hagar Amin swept the opposition, 6-4, 6-1.
Valeriia Avdeeva put Troy one point from victory, 3-1, when she also claimed her first career dual-match victory over Sara Rakim, 6-4, 7-5. Finally, Olivia Elliott clinched the match, 4-1, after coming back from falling in her first set, 6-4. The next two sets went the junior's way, 6-2, 6-0.
Tracking the Tigers
Still in search of their first win, the Tigers have gone scoreless since Jan. 22 when they faced Alabama A&M with a 4-3 result. On Sunday, TSU was swept, 14-0, in a doubleheader match against Mississippi State.
Tennessee State's closest match came against Alabama A&M, where four players claimed wins. Jovana Nikolic and Naomi Von Bose shined on the afternoon, earning a doubles and singles victory – only players on the roster with both. The pair joined forces to secure a clutch 7-6 victory to clinch the doubles point. Nikolic and Von Bose followed it up in singles, claiming their victories, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, and 7-5, 6-4, respectively.
