Women’s Golf Climbs on Final Day of Tchefuncta Invitational

COVINGTON, La. – The Troy women's golf team climbed a spot on the leaderboard thanks to its play in Tuesday's final round of the Tchefuncta Invitational at the Tchefuncta Country Club. The Trojans moved into a tie for fourth place, and ShaeLee Scarberry placed second individually.

Scarberry finished the tournament with 13 birdies over the event's 54 holes, the most in the field by two, thanks in part to a 1-under overall on the par-3 holes. As a team, Troy led the field at 11-over on the par-3s for the week and finished second with 32 team birdies.

She shot 3-over in Tuesday's final round with three birdies around six bogeys, finishing the event even-par on the par-71 golf course. Toledo's Tedam Lee shot 1-over on the day and edged Scarberry by five shots for individual medalist honors.

Samantha Straight shot under par for the first time in her collegiate career with a 1-under 70 on Tuesday. She carded four birdies on the day and was 3-under on her card on two different occasions; Straight's career-round pushed her six spots up the leaderboard into 34^th place.

South Alabama rallied to win the team title by two strokes over a struggling Southern Miss team; the Golden Eagles led by 12 shots heading into the final round but shot 20-over on the day to slip to second. Toledo finished third 10 shots off the pace while Troy and Little Rock tied for fourth, 13 shots back of the Jaguars.

Playing as an individual, Katelynn Altese made the biggest move up the leaderboard, jumping 13 spots into a tie for 18^th place after shooting even-par with two birdies and just two bogeys. Elisabeth Preus slipped into a tie for 23^rd after shooting 80 in the final round, Bruna Roqueta jumped four spots into a tie for 27^th after finishing Tuesday's round 4-over, and Laura Fangmeyer tied for 31^st place at 20-over for the week.

Troy will take a week off before heading to San Antonio, Fla., for the Spring Break Shootout at the Lake Jovita Country Club.
