Softball Hits Road for First Time Wednesday

TROY, Ala. – After opening the season with eight straight home games, Troy Softball plays 17 of its next 18 games away from campus, beginning with a mid-week tilt at Mercer Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. (CT), and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Troy (6-3) is coming off a weekend in which it won the Troy Invitational posting a 4-1 record in games against Murray State and Kennesaw State.
Taylor McKinney, Anslee Finch and Audra Thompson all had big weeks at the plate for the Trojans batting a combined .500 (19-for-38) with four doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. In the circle, it was Leanna Johnson pacing Troy with a pair of victories, a 1.08 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
Libby Baker leads the Trojans batting at a .381 clip on the season with a pair of home runs, while McKinney checks in at a .348 clip and Jade Sinness is batting .321 with three extra-base hits. D'Aun Riggs and Finch enter the week tied for second nationally with a pair of doubles, while Natalie Turner is 11th with eight stolen bases this season; she has not been caught stealing all year.
Mercer (4-5) posted a 3-2 mark over the weekend, winning games against Fairfield and Monmouth but losing both of its matchups with Stetson. The Bears dropped a 7-0 decision to Kennesaw State in the mid-week last week.
Troy leads the all-time series with Mercer, 27-7, including a 12-4 mark in Macon. The last meeting was a 9-1 Troy victory in the 2021 Troy Invitational.
