Troy will look to keep the bats hot as they come off a weekend that saw them blast 10 home runs, which saw Shane Lewis hit three himself and finish the series with nine runs batted in.
There have been plenty of contributors to the early season success. In game two against Evansville, the Trojans were down on three occasions. Freshman Brooks Bryan came on as a pinch hitter and hit a home run in his first collegiate at-bat in the bottom of the ninth, and was followed by Parker Sessions in his first at-bat with Troy knocking in the tying run in the 10th. Troy would eventually take the win thanks to the combination of Lewis and Kole Myers. In total, 15 players made their debut with Troy over the weekend.
The Trojans are averaging 10.3 runs per game, ranking 31st in the nation and second among Sun Belt teams. Troy was active on the base paths with 16 stolen bases putting them in fourth in the country, and the only Sun Belt team with double-digit bags swiped.
A year after setting the program record for strikeouts per nine innings and leading the Sun Belt, the Trojan pitching staff is off to another dominant start averaging 12.9 through the first three games after 40 strikeouts total.
Junior Ben Thompson will make his first career start in a Trojan uniform as the South Bend, Ind. native saw action over the weekend coming out of the bullpen, where he recorded two strikeouts.
Alabama State will counter with Marcos Del Valle. The Hornets enter Tuesday's matchup 3-1 on the year after a four-game series with Purdue Fort Wayne. The Hornets outscored their opponent 47-19 to open in 2023.
