Trojans Prepare for Sun Belt Indoor Championships

TROY, Ala. – The Troy indoor track & field squad is set to open competition at the 2023 Sun Belt Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The Championship meet will begin Monday, February 20, at the Birmingham CrossPlex before concluding on Tuesday, February 21.

Troy will send a total of 25 student-athletes to compete. Ines Garcia looks to repeat her strong performance last season at the championships as she saw two top-five finishes in the Women's Indoor Pentathlon. First, in the 60m hurdles, Garcia finished fifth, followed by a second-place finish in the pentathlon 800m run with a time of 2:25.17. Overall, Garcia placed seventh in the event with 3238 points. Garcia will be participating in the 60m hurdles and 400m.
Vennessa Frank and Maya Kelly were a part of the women's 4x400 meter relay that brought home bronze in the event finishing with a time of 3:45.18 last year, looking to place once again.
Other Trojans participating include Lauren Locke, who is coming off setting the women's mile school record, Biniosa Ezukuse, who has been strong in both the women's weight throw and shot put; Shanyah Washington in the 60 and 200 meters and Alejandra Gutierrez-Fuente in the Long and triple jump.
The Championships will be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 3 p.m.
